Ober Gallery was founded in 2006 by Rob Ober. Rob grew up in the Soviet Union as the son of an American diplomat and developed a strong interest in Russian culture and history.
The gallery has a reputation for showing internationally recognized Russian artists like Vladimir Nemukhin, Leonid Sokov and Leonid Lerman. Four gallery artists were included in the groundbreaking 2005 Guggenheim Museum show "Russia!"
In recent years the gallery has developed a reputation for showing talented young artists from Brooklyn like Brendan Cass, Brian Belott, Ted Gahl, Lance de Los Reyes and Billy Grant. We were the first gallery in Connecticut to show Katherine Bradford and Katherine Bernhardt.
The gallery is also committed to giving national exposure to the work of New England landscape painters.
In recent years, the gallery has acquired works by German artists A.R. Penck, Markus Lupertz and David Ostrowski. We also have an inventory of works by American artists Donald Baechler and Milton Resncik.
Ober Gallery also specializes in prints by Jean Dubuffet, A.R Penck and Sigmar Polke. Ober Gallery was one of the first galleries to present the prints of Sigmar Polke to the American public.
